Nature Photography Meetup

Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 16 November
Lewis Center - 10am - 2 Hours
Heather Myers
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

What I liked most about class - uniqueness! Walking around in the forest chasing waterfalls and finding the best sites for pics was fun. Also, I liked the duck challenge! Time and day of event was perfect. I got really good tips from Cheyenne. Great learning experience; this was not my first class and I still learned new things...I think that a small number of class participants was best - I am not sure how the instructor would have had time for any more individual teaching if there were more of us! Very friendly instructor and friendly people in class...

This was my first event and to be honest, I was hesitant to sign up because I wasn't sure what I would get out of it. But, this was great! Cheyenne did a great job instructing, making us part of the event and giving feedback. Her instruction was perfect! She is very energetic and passionate about photography and it showed in her interaction and instruction. I can't wait to sign up for another event!!

I thought it was a very good event. I especially appreciated the one-on-one attention Cheyenne gave me. No other meetup leader has spent that much time with me. I'm look forward to taking another one of Cheyenne's classes!

Cheyenne Stone was amazing . She took the time to go over each person camera and show us some base setup for our camera. When I came I had no clue what my camera could do, but when I left I had a good understanding of how to take pictures. .

After hearing for several days that there was "a chance" that we might see the Aurora Borealis, I prepped my gear (Sony A7iii with a 14mm Wide Angle Lens and my Tripod) on the off-chance that we would actually see the lights. I stepped out on my deck at about 10pm on Friday night (May 10th) and could faintly see that something was happening. Suddenly a portion of the sky turned fuschia and kept changing and moving. I ran in and hurriedly grabbed my gear just in time to catch the show before dimm

Title or Location: Pickerington Ponds Metro Park
I took this photo at Pickerington Ponds around 7:00 pm earlier this year. The sunset made the goldenrods appear as if they were glowing, and this redwing blackbird was swinging on the plant while eating its seeds. I used a Nikon D500 with a 200-500mm f/5.6 lens. The camera settings were 1/1000s, ISO 7200, f/5.6, 500mm. I shot this image in RAW format and processed in LrC.

I took a nature photography class to try and keep up on my photography skills and see if I could learn something new. We were taking pictures of a waterfall and I decided to stand back and see if I could get a more interesting shot. This older lady walked up to look more closely at the waterfall and I thought it would be a great shot. It turned out much better than expected!

I wanted to frame the September full moon rise behind the Sydney Opera House but since the waterside at Circular Quay was cordoned off, I had to choose an alternate position but was satisfied with the end result of capturing the moon appearing right between the main big sails.

Got to Wellington point and the tide was nice and low, the sun was blazing and about to set.I walked along the sand bar to try and get the right framing with the sun in the background as the surfers jumped out of the water. The photos looked quite bland out of the camera but once processed I was able to bring out some awesome colors from the sunset.

Horse Head Rock is not accessible at high tide, so planning for a sunset shot in this location needs to be planned well. Photo was taken during a seascapes workshop that I was leading in Australia.
